LEGISLATION AND LICENSE PLATES

Forklifts, lifts, work platforms, bucket trucks or any other lifting truck (even electric pallet trucks) – except for trailers – get license plates for working machines by the Minister for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works, and they must me insurance in an insurance company.

They are divided into two major categories:

Into machines which are allowed to move in the driving network of the country, and in this category fall machines which can move at a speed greater than 50 km/h but their dimensions don’t exceed 2,50 m wide, 4 m high and 12 m length. For these machines, you must pay vehicle excise duty. In this category fall lifts on vehicles, bucket trucks, cranes etc.

The machines that are not allowed to move in the road network of the country, in which fall the slow-moving cars (moving slower than 50 km/h). For these machines, you don’t pay vehicle excise duty but you are obliged to ensure it in an insurance company. In this category, we can find all the forklifts, the work platforms, the bucket trucks etc. Trailer bucket trucks and lifts do not get (yet) license plates but they can move in the road network of the country being towed by a vehicle which has been given the relevant «tow license». It is essential for the move of a trailer in the road network to be insured (in the insurance category which refers to trailers, boat trailers etc).
